I haven't said hello for a while, as I have been busy with all the writing. But I've hit my targets, so here I am with a little update on what I've been up too recently.

Two weeks ago, I went to see the Tempest at the Globe. It was wonderful - a perfect summer's evening, a great production, and oh my goodness, Colin Morgan is beautiful. I mean, I knew this, but seeing him on stage... he stood out, he really did, as a creature of beauty. I couldn't keep my eyes off him. I am tempted to go back to watch it again - as well as Colin being other-wordly and pretty, it was a fantastic experience and I loved every second of it.

Unfortunately, you're not allowed to take photos during the performance, so have a nice pic of The Globe on a summer's evening instead.

The Globe, on a summer's evening

It was good timing too, as I have been busy working on my Paperlegends fic. Last night I finally finished my first draft! It feels so good to have (finally) got to this point. At this stage I'm still happy to delete and rewrite, but having a whole story to work with is so much more satisfying than still having it in your head, but not on the page. Of course, since I finished I've been feeling all at a loose end. I'm now just waiting for my cheerleader, artist and pre-reader to read it and let me know what they think. As this is my first (completed) Merlin fic, and I haven't actually finished watching the TV show, I'm worried I'll have screwed it all up somehow. That said. I've really enjoyed writing this fic, and I've been totally self-indulgent in the writing, too. I have no idea if anyone else will like it, but I think that I do. Although I don't actually know if it makes any sense or works as a story, lol. But at least it is pretty in parts.

I used Scrivener for the first time to write, and it was amazing. I planned the whole story out on little cards, then wrote each out as a scene. You can take snapshots of a scene before rewriting, then compare the two. You have a little sticky note attached to each scene for notes. You can set a daily word target. There are probably hundreds of features that I haven't discovered yet, but it really did help in the structuring and writing of something longer.

I also cannot state just how excited I am to be working with an artist. I smile every time I think about it, and I will definitely be looking into getting more fan art of my fics, whether HP or Merlin-based.

In HP news, I've claimed a prompt for the [livejournal.com profile] hd_fan_fair Book Fair, which I'm very excited about. I quickly sketched out some ideas the other day, and will now think about it for a while. It's quite a challenging prompt, and I'm really looking forward to teasing out all the possibilities and getting writing.

I've also got about a million fics to read to catch up on Smoochfest, but what I did manage to read before stopping to get my PL fic finished, I loved!

I do have one quick rec from [livejournal.com profile] hd_smoochfest (I know I'm usually rubbish at reccing, but this one really stood out): Sticky Fingers, art (although art really doesn't seem enough of a description for this story/comic). It is absolutely amazing, and it left me with tears in my eyes as it was just so perfect: beautiful to look at, and a wonderful, gentle story with real soul.

Very jealous - and happy for you - that you got to see Colin on stage. :)

Congratulations on finishing your PL first draft. That's really cool and now you have lots of time to revise and polish it.

Colin really was amazing. I walked in thinking that I quite like him, and walked out with a total crush.

And I am so pleased to have got a first draft! It's all been so new, and I did want lots of time to revise, so yay! How are you doing with yours?

I've had a crush on him for a bit now. :)

Not doing so well with mine. I really need to hustle this week before rough drafts are due.
