I haven't said hello for a while, as I have been busy with all the writing. But I've hit my targets, so here I am with a little update on what I've been up too recently.

Two weeks ago, I went to see the Tempest at the Globe. It was wonderful - a perfect summer's evening, a great production, and oh my goodness, Colin Morgan is beautiful. I mean, I knew this, but seeing him on stage... he stood out, he really did, as a creature of beauty. I couldn't keep my eyes off him. I am tempted to go back to watch it again - as well as Colin being other-wordly and pretty, it was a fantastic experience and I loved every second of it.

Unfortunately, you're not allowed to take photos during the performance, so have a nice pic of The Globe on a summer's evening instead.

The Globe, on a summer's evening )

It was good timing too, as I have been busy working on my Paperlegends fic. Last night I finally finished my first draft! It feels so good to have (finally) got to this point.More on writing for Paperlegends )

In HP news, I've claimed a prompt for the [livejournal.com profile] hd_fan_fair Book Fair, which I'm very excited about. I quickly sketched out some ideas the other day, and will now think about it for a while. It's quite a challenging prompt, and I'm really looking forward to teasing out all the possibilities and getting writing.

I've also got about a million fics to read to catch up on Smoochfest, but what I did manage to read before stopping to get my PL fic finished, I loved!

I do have one quick rec from [livejournal.com profile] hd_smoochfest (I know I'm usually rubbish at reccing, but this one really stood out): Sticky Fingers, art (although art really doesn't seem enough of a description for this story/comic). It is absolutely amazing, and it left me with tears in my eyes as it was just so perfect: beautiful to look at, and a wonderful, gentle story with real soul.

My review of the year comes a little later than others, because it marks a year since I started writing, rather than review of 2012. Although of course they are the more or less the same. If that makes any sense, bravo, read on.

I have written seventeen fics, with a total of about 225,000 words... )

Happy New Year, all. I hope 2013 brings you much happiness.

I thought it was about time I posted something here. I feel that it has been an age since I said hello to my flist, so, hello!

I think I need to look up one of my old A level English teachers, because today and yesterday I have had another Keats poem stuck in my mind, and perhaps I need to thank him. This time it's La Belle Dame Sans Merci.

Well, it is for me, anyway.

When I started writing, it was just something that I had to do. The words needed to get out, and I wasn't sure if I'd have any more once they were written down. It has been an immense surprise to find that I did have more to say, more to write.

Ramblings and a confused metaphor about writing being like love )

It really was. I was driving through Hampstead, and all the trees were burning bright with orange and red and gold, and the air was damp, the pavements leaf- and rain-slicked, and white mist was swallowing the far end of Whitestone Pond. I drove past the road that Keats lived on, and the little lanes and red-brick mansion flats and white-washed villas of Hampstead, and glorious trees and open spaces of the Heath, and all I could think, over and over again, were the words 'Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness', because that's all I could see.

Everything was set against the white of the mist, and the tunnel of trees by the Heath on South End Road felt peaceful rather than dark, as it often does.

It was absolutely and utterly perfect, and the only thing which could have improved it was if I had been able to get out of the car and go for a walk. But being in the car made it like passing through some beautiful dream, and it was spell-binding.

I'm still working away at When a Tree Dreams - I'm halfway through the epilogue - but I've actually slowed right down with my writing. RL is a little stressful at the moment, and I'm already looking forward to getting back to writing obsessively again.
