Under the wide, wide sky

This fic was a real labour of love. It's my first Merlin fic, and it's inspired by Keats' poem 'La Belle Dame Sans Merci' (if any of you remember my Keats-obsessed phase a while ago). I wrote it for the paperlegends Merlin Big Bang, and I can't quite believe that it has finally posted - I worked on this for months, and just indulged myself on every aspect of it. Or as I described it on twitter: it's like one of my angsty one-shots, only it's 35k long.

I know that most of my flist is H/D rather than Merlin, but I hope you read it anyway - I'd say you don't need knowledge of the show to read it, although if you are a Merlin fan then it might make you even more sad. It is rather angsty - more so than is my norm.

So... I wrote this for hd_remix, and it was certainly an interesting challenge to remix someone else's fic! Somehow it ended up being long - very long considering that it was a remix of a drabble. I think it marks new territory in many ways for me: I do enjoy trying out new things with each fic, and this one seemed to call for a move into slightly kinkier territory (although so far holding firm to my vague desire to see what happens if I avoid writing actual buttsex for a year).  Anyway, if you haven't read it already, I hope you enjoy it.

...and it only took me three days to write this post! I was very excited when my fic posted, especially after a month of waiting (I'm quite impatient). I really like writing for fests, and I've also been in a good mood this week because I finished a first draft of my HD Career Fair fic, amd made the HD Hols cut. So woohoo! for fests.

Anyway, the idea of this fest, Glompfest is fantastic, and pretty unique, and I was very happy to glomp sajmalfoy13.

I loved writing this story: it was during my busy period (I wrote it between my second and third Smoochfest fics), and I think it marks a point where I'd gained in confidence a little, and began to push myself a bit more. Mostly though, I just like it, which isn't always the case with what I write. So here it is: a memory loss fic that I'm proud of.
