I've been wanting to post about this song/video ever since I saw it last week. Somehow, I managed to miss it when it was first made (despite knowing
evilgiraff and her telling me about it). Anyway, I'd had a terrible week and had been fairly miserable, and then I saw this. I laughed until I cried. I sat on the floor and howled with laughter.
How could I not share this with the wider world?
I should have known it would make me laugh, because it was made by two special people:
evilgiraff and her husband, Mr Blues Guy. I've been friends with the wonderful EG for a few years now. We first bonded over Twilight fanfic, then we both discovered slash, the joys of angst, and the rightness of Harry/Draco. We may stray from HP territory (I've been reading Merlin and she's been reading Star Trek), but one thing remains true: our love of slash. She betas for me, and her notes always make me laugh. I beta for her, but I fear I'm just not as witty as she is.
The other thing I know is that her husband, Mr Blues Guy, is a pretty amazing man. And how do I know he is amazing? As well as being the sort of kind and breakfast-in-bed husband we all wish we had, he wrote and sang this song with her. That is enough earn him the kind of praise many men only dream of.
So if you, like me, are a happily married/shacked-up straight woman, with a man at home wondering exactly what you are doing reading and writing about gay men and their, ahem, relationships, this is a song for you.
Many thanks to
evilgiraff and Mr Blues Guy for the Slash Fiction Blues...
One final thing, the fic quoted in the song is Uncomfortable, by Savannah-Vee. It is Twilight slash (E/J) and the most delicious awakening of sexuality and general teen boy awkwardness you will ever read. It is what made me first turn to slash: it is still one of my favourite stories.
I've just listened to it again, and yes, the tears are rolling down my face. Again.
