Keats again

I think I need to look up one of my old A level English teachers, because today and yesterday I have had another Keats poem stuck in my mind, and perhaps I need to thank him. This time it's La Belle Dame Sans Merci.
The first stanza of this poem has been going round and round my head - I've always loved it, but there's something about a tree barren of leaves which always calls it to mind.
Those final four words.. gah, it does something to me, all those monosyllables, all stark and wintry.
So, in the end I just looked the poem up, and reread it and loved it all. And then, miracle of miracles, all this thinking about the poem turned into a desire to write its story; which looks like it is becoming a hurt/comfort Merlin/Arthur fic. Because, well, there's a knight, and there needs to be someone to ask that first question, doesn't there?
It feels so very good to be writing again - I think it's been about two weeks since I last wrote anything - and it is nice to stretch out into another fandom for a moment. Harry/Draco remains my OTP, but I do have a weakness for a man in armour and for a dark-haired man of magic too.... When it's done I may post it here, or just on AO3 - I'm not sure how many of my flist read Merthur. *peers out* This does look like something not too specific, with more of a mythical feel about it. So far, anyway. *gives away all the secrets*
I am also hammering away, a sentence at a time, at several unfinished H/D gift fics. Soon, soon, I will finish them. Well, maybe by the time spring arrives, lol. :)

Oh what ails thee, knight-at-arms,
Alone and palely loitering?
The sedge has withered from the lake
And no birds sing.

Date: 2012-11-15 12:10 am (UTC)I love the pairing, but I'm not obsessed with the fandom only because I haven't found that many quality fics. Most of the ones I came across were present time AUs with Merlin and Arthur in high school, so I just sighed and ran away. Perhaps I've just been looking in the wrong places. I adore your writing, however, so I'm sure you will do them justice. = D

It puts me in mind of Edna St Vincent Millay today, "I only know that summer sang in me a little while, that in me sings no more" (excuse if misquote, am on phone).
But oh noes! You are leaving H/D! The fandom is dying! Waaahhhh! ;-)
Glad you are writing. I will be reading. Even if I know cock all about the tv Merlin.
