My review of the year comes a little later than others, because it marks a year since I started writing, rather than review of 2012. Although of course they are the more or less the same. If that makes any sense, bravo, read on.

I have written seventeen fics, with a total of about 225,000 words.

My masterlist is, at present, a list of all my writing in 2012 (well, it will be once I add my Hols fic after the reveal tomorrow). I have started and not finished many others fics, so my total wordage for the year is probably nearer 250k. From the first time I wrote, when I remember thinking to myself, 'I've only got this one story to tell,' to now, when I'm constantly chasing plot bunnies and eyeing up prompts, I have loved the process of writing. I hope that my writing improves a little, fic to fic (although I am currently at the 'throw-hands-up-in-the-air-in-horror' stage of writing my Remix fic) and that people enjoy reading whatever it is I happen to write. I still have tons to learn, and bizarrely I'm still following a pattern of one angsty fic then one fluffy fic.

It's hard to name a favourite fic, but maybe the last two I wrote fit the bill: The Haunting of Draco Malfoy, and, er, my Hols fic. Both are very different. My least favourite was a drabble I wrote about Pansy. The most popular thing I wrote was Trust in Hope, the Eighth Year fic I wrote for Smoochfest. I have loved taking part in fests (Smoochfest, Glompfest, HD Fan Fair, HD Hols, and at the moment, HD Remix) and I'm looking forward to signing up again this year. Although perhaps I won't end up writing three fics for one fest again.

My favourite thing however, is being part of this lovely HD fandom: meeting people on LJ and twitter and in person, and finding a space to make stories and read those written by others. I know that this isn't the fast-moving fandom that it was a few years ago, but I like it here. The people who have stayed, and the ones who have joined more recently, like myself, are here because we love it, and things are still happening, I am enjoying the bubbling away beneath the surface that keeps it alive. I don't join in with every meme or fest, being a bit of a shrinking violet, but it is just great to see it all happening.

Especial thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore for all the prereading and cheerleading she does, as well as a daily stream of emails to make me smile (and for letting me preread her comedy gold), [livejournal.com profile] evilgiraff for betaing, chatting, and being a great friend, [livejournal.com profile] eidheann_writes for being so encouraging, [livejournal.com profile] oakstone730 or sharing my vanilla tastes and love of books, and to [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules for being so overwhelmingly positive, and for seeming to quite literally carry fandom along at times. I'd also like to say that I have enjoyed talking to [livejournal.com profile] writcraft and [livejournal.com profile] melusinahp, as they make me think about HP and meta and I LOVE that kind of thing. So thanks. ♥

Well, I think we're off to a good start. :) I still can't believe quite how much you do, with your mad fest schedule, and now modding a fest of your own too. Amazing!

And a bit more. I've loved reading your fic and I love especially you weren't freaked out by my squealing fangirlishness of it all.

What a year! Lawks, haven't we had a hoot? :D

I still really love that Pansy drabble! Why don't you like it?

I messed up a bit with my authorial perspective (I may even go back and fix it). But then these lessons are best learned by having a go, no?

Also I think that you were the only person to like it, lol.

And SO EXCITED about tomorrow: It's going to snow AND I'm going to see you. Couldn't be more perfect.

"I think that you were the only person to like it"

Well, I did like it. And authorial perspective, pffffft.

I want you to do more little drabbles and write me some more Poet!Greg and all sorts of things.

And tomorrow will be fab. G cannot believe how exciting the apartment is. I only just got him to sleep. And L is still up. *Yawn*

Drabbles? Poet!Greg?

Here you are. :)

Light marked a path across the wall, everything silver-soft and strange. The room was quiet, but Greg couldn’t sleep. It wasn’t the moonlight, or a dream, or anything else he could put his finger on. He just couldn’t get to sleep.

Greg sat up, and looked down at Luna, curled up next to him. He couldn’t see her face, but he could see the rise and fall of her steady breathing. He could hear it, along with the rustles he made as he tried to get comfortable. She was everything he loved about her in that moment: vulnerable, strong, comfortable with herself and yet still with one arm flung out, taking her own path.

He watched her for a moment more, warmth flooding his chest and a smile on his face, and then he reached out for his notebook and pencil.

It was a Muggle pencil, a mechanical one, and it was far more sensible for these middle-of-the-night moments than any quill. His notebook was also Muggle, but the light that Greg set hovering above the page was pure magic.

Sitting back, Greg looked once more to the wall, and then to the window lying across Luna’s side of the room. By unspoken agreement they slept with the curtains wide open (and in the summer, the windows too). They both liked to sleep and rise with the sun, and with the birds that filled the trees in the gardens below. For now, all was quiet, but the moon was bright in the sky, its edge just visible at the corner of the window.

After a moment, the words came, and he wrote.

Silver-bright
A night-time wonder

You move with steady stealth
Life reflected in your eyes
In your arms
In the gentleness of your breath

As you glide through darkness
As you smile at the world

I hear your voice in the wind
The trees
The birds

I hear your voice in the dark
In the whispers of the night

I hear a word

Love.

Greg marked the end of his poem, and his hand fell to his side. He read through the words, and nodded. He put his notebook and pencil back on the side, extinguished the light, and lay back down again in bed. Carefully, Greg wrapped an arm around Luna, her warmth drawing him closer. She sighed in her sleep and wriggled until they fit together perfectly.

Within two minutes, Greg was asleep, his heavy breaths along with Luna’s light ones the only sound in the moonlit room.

Let's hear it for vanilla! You have had a remarkable writing year - and so many fests! Thank you for being a wonderful cheerleader and my always-willing-Brit-check consultant.

Enjoy the snow, we had a about an inch or so and it does brighten an otherwise grey day. I look forward to more writing and sharing with you in 2013.

Something tells me I will have a slightly reduced writing output this year - it's not quite the same burning need. And it doesn't compare with your huge opus, or the speed with which it rushed out of you.

I love your little Brit-picking queries, and then the way they pop up in your fics and I get a thrill of recognition.

Snow will be lovely, unless it stops me from getting to birds, in which case I will not be happy. To be honest it will probably be long gone by the evening, but it will be nice if it makes things pretty for a while.
